Jill Peterson
Owner / Breeder
Jill’s journey to breeding and living with horses has been quite twisted. By age 4 she realized she loved horses even though she had never seen one in person except in a parade. By age 6 she had her bedroom walls covered with horse pictures. By age 8 she had badgered her parents into giving her riding lessons. But the horsie life was not compatible with suburban life, high school, college, love, marriage, children, and graduate school. Horses receded from her life, but the love of the horses never left.
After graduate school, she was offered a job teaching at the University of Florida. She and her husband decided to just go do something new and TAKE IT! She found a local training/breeding barn where the cost to ride was $10.00 per lesson. She and her two sons rode for $30.00 per week. She had SOOOO much fun, she and her boys began riding twice each week for $60.00. As her boys grew, they became interested in more MACHO sports and no longer wanted to ride. So Jill continued with the $60.00 budget, and began riding SIX days per week. She became an addict, and began breeding in 1993. Is there a 12 step program to overcome this addiction? If so, she doesn’t want to know. She has never recovered.

Rachel Pennington
Manager
Rachel's passion for horses developed at a young age. She starting riding hunter/jumpers at the age of 12 and was instantly hooked. After continuing to ride and compete in high school it was an easy decision to attend the University of Florida majoring in the animal science equine program. While at UF Rachel was captain of the equestrian team and enjoying showing at intercollegiate competitions. It was also during college, the summer of 2001, that Rachel started working at StarQuarry Farm. Upon graduation in 2003 Rachel started working full time as the manager of StarQuarry and neighboring Hawkfields farm. What followed were years of beautiful foals, successful horse shows, great friends and lots of fun. So of course when Jill decided to relocate to Texas Rachel came too.
Rachel enjoys spending time with her family, husband Barry and daughter Ella. They love living on the farm and going to competitions with Finnegan SQF. Rachel also owns Toulouse, her semi retired Quarter horse, who she enjoys hacking around the farm. Ella enjoys the horses too and has already started riding. Rachel also shares her life with her beloved Jack Russell, Emma; Lab, Abbey, and cats Lola and Cassandra.

Roberto
Handler / Horse Whisperer
Roberto began working on our farm in 2013. He has many years of experience with horses from the time he was a child. More recently he has worked at a number of farms here in North Texas. He has family near StarQuarry Farm, and so is happily settled in.
He is a HUGE asset to our farm. He supervises himself, and when we ask him to do something specific, it happens PRONTO. He is calm and kind and an expert at dealing with horses of all ages. He also occasionally throws great parties (cervesas, fajitas and such) for his friends on the weekends. Our only falling out: after a party he and his friends piled all the party debris into neat piles and left for the night. By the time he got home late Sunday, the dogs had liberally distributed the trash ALL over the place. We all laughed! We are lucky to have him as part of our farm.
